Musings with tags buddhism on 29 June, 2008 by Ed
I met up with my friend Alain, to go to this Buddhism talk in Sta. Mesa.
I have been somewhat interested in Buddhism, since I visited Thailand in the late 90s.
Something about the “understanding” of Buddhism attracts me, but like many other interest when you are not motivated you tend to forget about it or leave it until someone brought it up in a conversation, which Alain did. And am quite thrilled by the concept, so I agreed to it. Unfortunately, there was no talk that day and we’re told to go back next week. But we decided to stay for an hour or so reading stuff about the Buddha -we also took 2 books for free. Anyway, we ended up at my place, where Alain and I talk about music, life and everything else in between.
Music, Musings with tags alanis morissette, saguijo, terno inferno, with friends on 22 June, 2008 by Ed
Last night was another experience in my lifetime.
I always love being surrounded by musical people, maybe because I’m frustrated in playing any musical instrument. That I just immerse myself in becoming an “audience” of these musical type of people, and that’s not being a critic too, although I do have my opinions.
It was another night of Terno Inferno at saGuijo, where all these bands from the same label show off their skills in music, and I just love the balance of it. From the “quiet is the new loud” sort to the “sonically enhanced” grandness.
Kudos to Outerhope, Swissy, Sleepwalk Circus, Musical O, Giniling Festival, Paramita and Up Dharma Down for the musical journey they provide this night.
And thank you Eon for the lovely company!
After that musical debauchery, I head off to meet Cam, who I befriended because we both adore Alanis – and more so now because we share a common ground in many things in this life.
We hang out till Sunday evening at her flat, talking our heads off, and giggling again for no reason.
Thank you Cam for sharing this jlp moment with me! 😉
Music with tags alanis morissette, brian cua, clubbing on 15 June, 2008 by Ed
I’m fortunate to be invited by Brian to be on his guest-list last night.
I approached Brian in Multiply, and told him that I’m a big Alanis fan, and I have this copy of Alanis Morissette’s first single Underneath (from her latest album “Flavors of Entanglement) that have all these club remixes, would he be interested to give it a spin in Bed and sure enough he agreed and offered to be his guest.
Brian played really good house music last night, with lots of vocals – which I love!
The one that still playing in my head, is the Snap song ” I’ve Got The Power song.”
So Brian if you’re reading this, as Alanis would say: “Thank you muchly!”. 🙂
Music with tags alanis morissette, flavors of entanglement, listening party on 14 June, 2008 by Ed
So last night was one of the event that I will cherish in my life, and am glad I made it happen.
It’s my first ever listening party that I organised for Alanis Morissette‘s latest cd “Flavors of Entanglement (FoE)” that just came out internationally two weeks ago.
If you’ve known me for quite sometime, you’ll know that Alanis Morissette is one of my musical heroes – and I guess now, I can really say that “I’m a real fan”!
Just to give you a bit of background about it, I got hooked with her music when I first heard and seen the video for “You Learn” back in the mid-90’s; And from that moment on, I kept in touch with her music, and read stuff about her and so forth.
It’s also during that time, I built a fan site that started in Geocities then moved to Tripod, then finally having it’s own domain name which is “AlanisPlanet.com” – then the hosting/domain company that I have it on went out of business, and unfortunately I was not able to recover the domain, it basically fallen under a cyber-squatter’s hand.
And so I decided to become quiet about it for a year or so and resurface once again in time for the release of her Under Rug Swept cd, and this time with a brand domain name, Alanis2.com – to this day, it’s still up and running, in spite of it being too static.
I even got invited then to be on a radio program (K-Lite’s Morning Brew) several times to talk about Alanis and all. I was thrilled and have lots of fun (unofficially) representing her.
Going back to the original subject..
Yes, so I have been dreaming of having a gathering of fans here in Manila and I realised that the release of FoE is a perfect time for it.
So, I invited my so-called Alanis friends, put the word out there online – and planned to be surprise. 9 people came, 4 of us are (somewhat) die-hard fans, and the rest still stuck in her Jagged Little Pill era. We watched some videos of Alanis that she did over the years, and of course listened to the album in it’s entirety.
It was indeed a special moment for me, seeing bunch of us listening, enjoying, bitching, and getting excited about her. So thanks to Camille, Alain, Christian, Joel, Manna, Liz, and Madz for being part of the event! And my acknowledgement to all the people who helped me in the past, you know who you are!
Thank you muchly! xx

Ok, so some of you probably seen my “blog” in blogspot.com, that one have not been updated for quite sometime, so am starting all over again, and this time right here at WordPress.
I’ve decided also that I’m not a particularly good blogger unless I’m really inspired by something cool happening –and when something cool happens I usually want to enjoy it rather than worrying about writing it down. Or when I just need to share thoughts that going through my head.
So, though I pledge to do my best on the blog entry thing . . . I think most of the time I’ll just check in and let you folks know stuff that you might find exciting, inspiring, or intriguing.
That’s kinda how I think the blog thing is going to work out for me. I’d like it to be interactive. I’ll check in and let you know what I’m reading, listening to, watching, or thinking about – then you (the collective ‘you’ out there) write me at thisfire[at]gmail.com and let me know what YOU’RE thinking, reading, listening to.
How’s that sound?!
Cheerio for now. 😉
PS: Wrong grammar & spelling ahead, please feel free to point out.
